Psychiatric Renewal through Innovative Solutions and Methods

PRISM (Psychiatric Renewal through Innovative Solutions and Methods) is Ozark Center’s specialized program for individuals struggling with treatment-resistant depression and other complex mood disorders. For people who have not experienced adequate relief from traditional medications or therapy alone, PRISM provides access to innovative, evidence-based treatment options designed to improve outcomes and restore hope.

PRISM was created to provide a new pathway to care for individuals struggling with treatment-resistant depression and other complex mood disorders. By combining advanced therapies, timely access, and coordinated care, PRISM delivers a comprehensive, patient-centered treatment experience.

Spravato® (Esketamine)

Spravato is an FDA-approved treatment for adults with treatment-resistant depression and certain forms of major depressive disorder. Administered under medical supervision, Spravato offers an alternative option when traditional antidepressants have not provided sufficient relief.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)

TMS is a non-invasive treatment that uses targeted magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. TMS does not require anesthesia, allows patients to remain awake and alert during treatment, and can be an effective option for individuals whose depression has not improved with medication alone. PRISM offers TMS evaluation for individuals age 15 and older. NeuroStar TMS is FDA-cleared as an adjunct treatment for major depressive disorder in adolescents ages 15–21.

ECT Screening and Referral

For some individuals with severe, persistent, or treatment-resistant depression, Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) may be an appropriate treatment option. PRISM provides comprehensive evaluation and coordination for patients who may benefit from ECT.

Please note that ECT is not performed within the PRISM clinic. Because ECT requires anesthesia and specialized hospital-based resources, PRISM’s role is to evaluate patients, determine appropriateness, educate patients and families, and coordinate referral to the appropriate treatment setting.

FAQs

PRISM serves individuals whose depression has not adequately improved despite previous treatment efforts, including antidepressant medications, psychotherapy, or other traditional approaches.

TMS may be appropriate for individuals with depression who have not achieved satisfactory improvement with medication or who have experienced significant medication side effects. A PRISM provider can determine whether TMS may be appropriate through a comprehensive evaluation.

No. TMS and ECT are different treatments. TMS uses magnetic pulses to stimulate specific brain regions and does not require anesthesia. ECT uses carefully controlled electrical stimulation while the patient is under anesthesia. Both are evidence-based treatments, but they are used in different circumstances and for different clinical needs.

No. PRISM evaluates patients for ECT and coordinates referrals when appropriate. ECT itself is performed in a hospital setting because it requires anesthesia and specialized medical support.

ECT may be considered for individuals with severe depression, treatment-resistant depression, significant suicidal symptoms, catatonia, or certain other psychiatric conditions when a provider determines it may offer the greatest benefit.

One of PRISM’s goals is rapid access to care. Patients are generally contacted and scheduled within approximately 72 hours of referral.
