Inpatient treatment

When an acute psychiatric disorder makes it difficult to function independently, or a person poses a danger to themselves or others, inpatient treatment can provide a safe and secure setting for care.

Our multidisciplinary team provides stabilization, evaluation, treatment planning and 24-hour nursing care. Behavioral health professionals address each patient’s mental, emotional and physical needs and help them build coping skills to manage their condition.

Each patient receives a customized treatment plan that may include:

  • Activity and occupational therapy
  • Medication management
  • Memory and mental status assessment
  • Individual and group therapy
  • Patient and family education
  • Stress management, coping and relaxation techniques
  • Care from evaluation through recovery

Geriatric behavioral health

Our short-term inpatient program serves adults ages 55 and older who are experiencing depression, dementia-related concerns or behavioral changes. We address the emotional and healthcare needs that can arise during aging in a warm, supportive setting.

Treatment includes

  • Individualized, goal-oriented psychotherapy and education supporting recovery from mental illness, addiction or both
  • Individual, group and family counseling
  • Treatment for mood disorders, chronic depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, gambling addiction, post-traumatic stress disorder and other co-occurring conditions
  • Healthy lifestyle skills, identifying and avoiding triggers, and relapse prevention

Psychiatric emergency services

Springdale Medical Center’s psychiatric emergency service (PES) provides 24/7 access to short-stay care of less than 23 hours for adults ages 18 and older. Care is available on a voluntary or involuntary basis in a safe, secure setting.

The program provides psychiatric evaluation, crisis intervention, stabilization and urgent medication assessment and treatment. It aims to improve rapid access to appropriate behavioral health care, reduce inpatient hospitalization and reduce the time law enforcement and EMS spend responding to mental health crises.

Who we serve

PES serves adults experiencing a behavioral health crisis, including those who may be a danger to themselves or others or who cannot safely care for themselves because of a mental health disturbance.

How to access care

Walk-ins are welcome. Individuals may come on their own, be referred by a provider or be brought by law enforcement, EMS or other first responders. Behavioral health providers and hospital emergency departments may refer or transfer patients directly to PES.
