PET/CT scan
We’re pleased to offer the only in-hospital stationary positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) scanner in our area. This revolutionary equipment provides our physicians with highly detailed images of the body to assist in the diagnosis of cancer, cardiac, and neurological disorders. Conveniently located at Freeman Hospital East, the unit features a private treatment room and an enclosed suite. We combine this cutting-edge technology with the expert care provided by our team of board-certified radiologists and registered technologists to give you superior diagnostic care.
Cardiac imaging
According to the American Heart Association, nearly 1 million people die of cardiovascular disease each year – that’s one person every 33 seconds. Imaging technology, called SmartScore™, can help patients discover their risk for heart disease and heart attack. The scan allows physicians to evaluate the health of patients and determine their risk for heart attack by looking for calcium deposits in the arteries that may restrict blood flow to the heart.
SmartScore is recommended for people with two or more of the following characteristics:
SmartScore is not appropriate for those with known coronary disease or active symptoms.
If you’re interested in SmartScore, please consult your physician.
Imaging services in Arkansas
Arkansas imaging services are available through Bentonville, Springdale, Siloam Springs and Willow Creek Medical Centers. Available examinations and preparation requirements vary by location. Contact your ordering provider or the hospital’s imaging team to arrange the service you need.
X-rays use electromagnetic energy to create images of internal tissues, bones and organs. They can help evaluate bone injuries, tumors and other concerns. X-ray technology is also used in CT scans, fluoroscopy and arteriograms.
Tell your technologist or physician before the examination if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant. Your care team can explain preparation and what to expect.
Bone densitometry, also called DEXA or dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, measures bone density. It helps clinicians assess osteoporosis, osteopenia (low bone mass) and fracture risk.
Osteoporosis may not cause noticeable symptoms before a fracture occurs. A bone-density test can help your provider identify bone loss and develop a treatment plan to help slow its progression and prevent fractures. Ask your provider whether screening is appropriate for you and where to schedule your examination.
Nuclear medicine uses small amounts of radioactive material, given orally or intravenously, to examine organ structure and function. It can help identify abnormalities, assess the spread of cancer, locate infection and evaluate blood clots in the lungs.
Diagnostic imaging services include:
I-131 therapy at Springdale
Springdale Medical Center provides iodine (I-131) therapy for hyperthyroidism (an overactive thyroid) and appropriate thyroid cancer patients. Your treating provider can determine whether this treatment is appropriate and coordinate a referral.
A cardiac calcium score, sometimes called a heart scan, is a non-invasive CT examination that measures calcified plaque in the coronary arteries. Your provider can use the results as part of an assessment of your risk for coronary artery disease.
Arkansas cardiac calcium scoring is available at Bentonville Medical Center and Springdale Medical Center. A physician’s order is required.
Schedule an examination: 479.757.4135
Fax physician orders: 479.757.2953.
Your care team can also provide education about heart-healthy nutrition, blood pressure, stress management and warning signs of a cardiac event.
